Choosing the right scale for an architectural model depends on the model's purpose, the level of detail required, and the actual dimensions of the real object. The guidelines below are useful rules of thumb, but every project deserves its own evaluation.
Start by calculating the model's size
Before selecting a scale, work out how large the finished model will physically be. A model that becomes unusually tall, sprawling, or tiny is a clear sign the scale needs adjusting. The goal is a piece that's comfortable to view at arm's length and easy to move and display.
